Sound Management

Professional sound is central to a successful event, ensuring presenters are heard clearly, audience questions are captured, and video or remote contributions play smoothly. Below outlines the microphone options, speaker setup, and digital sound mixing used to deliver clear, balanced audio throughout the room.
Microphones:
The AV system includes eight Sennheiser EM 100 G4 radio channels operating in the 606–648 MHz range, using Ofcom’s shared licensed frequency band of 606.5–614.0 MHz. This range is suitable for most event spaces, with each radio channel offering a transmission range of up to 100 metres.
For multi-event venues, frequencies outside this range may be required. In these cases, higher frequencies above 614 MHz must be licensed through Ofcom before the event. Please note that each licensed frequency costs £15.00 + VAT per day.
The eight radio channels can be used with either handheld or lapel microphones. The AV system includes eight Sennheiser handheld microphones and four lapel microphones, allowing any combination of handhelds and lapels to be configured across the available channels.
For example, presenters may use lapel microphones while handheld microphones are used for audience questions. For a panel discussion, the host could use a lapel microphone, each panellist could use a handheld microphone, and additional handhelds could be used as roaming audience microphones.
A running order is used to plan the microphone setup for each part of the event. This ensures the right microphones are prepared for presenters before they go on stage, helping the event run smoothly.
Speakers:
For balanced sound coverage across the room, an eight-speaker system is used. Speakers are positioned to create sound zones that cover the sides and rear of the room, helping distribute audio evenly throughout the space.
At the front of the room or stage, two subwoofers and column array speakers provide clear projected sound for speech and video playback. These speakers are also used for awards presentations and evening entertainment.

Digital Sound Mixer:
The digital sound mixer manages each radio microphone channel, along with additional audio inputs from videos played directly through the media system or via PowerPoint.
For live remote integrations, such as Microsoft Teams, the mixer is used to balance sound so the room audience can hear the remote presenter clearly, while the remote presenter can also hear audio from the microphone channels.
